ABOUT US
The Reflux Infants Support Association Inc is an Australian non-profit community organisation that aims to encourage and give confidence and moral support to families of infants and children who suffer from Gastro-Oesophageal Reflux (GOR, reflux) and its complications. RISA Inc was formed in Brisbane back in 1982 by a small group of parents whose infants suffered from gastro-oesophageal reflux. From there, the organisation has grown and now provides support to families in all states and territories of Australia, and also has some members overseas.
Initially named the Vomiting Infants Support Association (VISA) of Qld, the organisation changed its name in 2001 to the Reflux Infants Support Association (RISA) Inc because many families were hesitant to make contact if their child did not vomit.
Those who have lived through the experience of caring for a ‘refluxer’ can understand the distress reflux may cause; they are best able to support these families and help them understand they are not alone. All active members work as unpaid volunteers, and are parents of children who have had, or still have Gastro-Oesophageal Reflux (GOR) or Gastro-Oesophageal Reflux Disease (GORD). They know from personal experience how vital it is to continue to support other families who have children with reflux.
